Census 2027 will keep the same urban area definition as Census 2011

• To ensure uniformity while comparing the urbanization trends in the country.
• The definition of an urban unit under Census 2011 was as follows:
  • Statutory Town: All administrative units that have been defined by statute as urban, like Municipal Corporation, Municipality, cantonment Board, Notified Town Area Committee, Town Panchayat, Nagar Palika, etc.
  • City: Statutory Towns with a population of 1,00,000 and above.
  • Census Town: All other places that satisfied the following criteria:
    • A minimum population of 5,000 persons
    • At least 75% of the male main working population being engaged in non-agricultural pursuits
    • A density of population of at least 400 persons per sq. km
• Census 2011: urbanization was 31.2%; Census 1951: urbanization was 17.3%.

Delhi to host All India Speakers’ Conference

• To be inaugurated by the HM Amit Shah on 24 August 2025.
• A commemorative stamp marking the centenary of Vitthalbhai Patel, the first elected Indian Speaker, will be released. 

SEMICON India 2025

• 4th edition of SEMICON India will be inaugurated by PM Modi on 2 September 2025 in New Delhi.
• Event aims to catalyse global collaboration, support domestic innovation, and strengthen India’s role as a trusted, scalable, and competitive electronics manufacturing hub.
• For the first time, it will feature 4 International Pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia.

• CECA: Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement ⇒ negotiations are ongoing between India and Australia for it.
