Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi has inaugurated ‘Agnishodh’, a dedicated Indian Army Research Cell established at IIT Madras. The initiative aims to transform academic research into defence-ready technologies, aligning with the Army’s long-term modernization goals.
The newly launched Agnishodh cell directly supports the Indian Army’s Five Pillars of Transformation and advances the vision of “Swadeshikaran Se Sashaktikaran” — promoting self-reliance in defence capabilities.
As part of its operations, Agnishodh will collaborate with the IIT Madras Research Park and key innovation partners such as the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) and the Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The focus will be on converting lab-scale innovations into deployable technologies that can be used in real-world defence scenarios.
In addition to research and development, the centre will play a vital role in upskilling military personnel. Training will be offered in cutting-edge domains such as:
- Additive manufacturing
- Cybersecurity
- Quantum computing
- Wireless communication
- Unmanned aerial systems (UAS)
This initiative strengthens the Indian Army’s commitment to adopting next-generation technologies and fostering academic-military collaboration for national security and innovation.
