India successfully test-fires Agni-5 intermediate-range ballistic missile

✅ Test-fired from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha on August 20, 2025 ⇒ carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command.
✅  A variant of Agni-5, India’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range of 5,000 km ⇒ designed by DRDO.
Previous trial of Agni-5 was conducted in 2024, when the missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle technology was tested successfully ⇒ can strike multiple targets with a single launch.

Lok Sabha passes the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025

✅ Seeks to prohibit the offering, operation, facilitation, advertisement, promotion and participation in online money games ⇒ targets firms that offer fantasy sports and card games where users can deposit and risk money.
✅ Provides for an authority that will promote e-sports as a creative and recreational industry.

Charge-coupled device (CCD)

✅ An electronic component used to capture images by converting light into electrical signals.
✅ Invented in 1969 by Willard Boyle and George Smith (recently passed away) at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey, US ⇒ received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2009.
✅ Working principle of a CCD is based on the photoelectric effect.
Applications range from digital cameras and medical imaging to telescopes ⇒ foundational in many high-precision imaging applications, but CMOS sensors are now commonly used in consumer electronics for cost and power efficiency reasons.

India Post Launches IT 2.0 – Advanced Postal Technology (APT)

✅ Developed indigenously by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology.
✅ Runs on the govt’s MeghRaj 2.0 cloud and is supported by BSNL’s nationwide connectivity ⇒ offers a unified interface, QR-code-based payments, OTP-based delivery, and DIGIPIN to improve accuracy.
