GoM on GST rate rationalisation accepts the Centre’s proposal
✅ The proposal involves retaining just the 5% and 18% slabs in the current GST structure and doing away with the 12% and 28% slabs ⇒ certain items in the current 28% slab would be moved to a higher 40% slab, but the compensation cess currently applicable for the 28% slab would no longer apply.
✅ The GST Council formed the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Rate Rationalisation, chaired by Samrat Choudhary.
Registrar General of India (RGI) urges States to ensure universal registration of births and deaths.
✅ All govt hospitals are “registrars” of births and deaths ⇒ hospitals have to report the event within 21 days.
✅ The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023, makes online registration of births and deaths compulsory on the RGI portal.
✅ From October 1, 2023, the digital birth certificate is the single document to prove the date of birth for various services.

Organ donation in India
✅ National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) is the apex body to oversee organ donations.
✅Organ transplantation and donation are covered under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994, which allows organ donation by live and brain-stem dead donors.
✅ NOTTO data reveals that women make up the majority of organ donors in India, but they receive organs disproportionately less ⇒ NOTTO recently directed that women patients and relatives of deceased donors will receive priority in organ allocation, to address this gender disparity.
